From 20 to 24 November 2017, the fourth edition of the international training seminar on quality, safety and energy efficiency in the fields of industry and construction was organized at CURES. This seminar was organized with the collaboration of the National Polytechnic School of Yaounde (ENSPY), the Federal Polytechnic School of Lausanne (EPFL), ENERPLAN and LEGRAND companies.
Several university professors and energy professionals have taught both theoretical and practical lessons. There are 8 trainers Cameroonian, Swiss, Malagasy and Senegalese: Prof. Yves Perriard (EPFL); Prof. Papa Alioune NDIAYE (ESP Dakar); Mr Rija Rakotozanakajy (Enerplan S.A); Mr. Dacmeta Ludovic (LeGrand) and teachers from ENSPY (Prof. Pierre Elé, Prof. Benoît Ndzana, Dr. Paul Salomon Ngohé Ekam and Dr. Raïssa Onanena).

25 PhD students, post-docs, engineers and technicians) from Cameroon and Gabon took part in this training, which was spread over several modules namely electrical safety (Lightning shock, neutral system ...); the reliability and quality of the electrical energy (quality of energy, selectivity of protections ...); hybrid systems and multi-source coupling (wind, solar, battery and diesel); energy efficiency (energy audit in a district hospital) and practical lab work. |
With regard to the practical work in the lab, beyond the TP usually presented on (1) the selectivity of circuit breakers and protection against voltages and (2) the diagram of connection to the ground and protection against electrical contacts, the PhD student Aristide Tolok gave a presentation on the control of the source coupling bench (functionality and demo). An energy audit was carried out in a district hospital about 50 km from Yaoundé and was mainly aimed at measuring the earth resistance of the radiology unit of this district hospital. These measurements revealed that the resistance of the earth electrode is very high compared to the maximum normalized value. This leads to the risk of damage and electrocution of equipment and people. With rehabilitation work planned for the hospital, the managers intend to take into account a new dimension of the grounding which will have to take into account possible modifications in the installation. |
