Situation
Cameroon is exploiting its hydropower potential only at 5%. A significant part of this potential can be exploited through mini and small hydropower plants. These power plants could contribute to rural electrification which is currently below 10%. For example, district hospitals lacking a reliable electricity supply could be supplied with electricity and the existing electricity grid reinforced thanks to decentralized injections.
Objectives
The overall project objective is to develop mini hydropower plants (<1MW) in Cameroon. The specific objectives are:
1) Identify the potential near to the district hospitals.
2) Develop a pilot project: identification of appropriate technologies to the context (turbine, civil engineering works, grid connection, etc.). Identify improvements and adaptations of existing technologies to local conditions with the EssentialTech approach.
3) Develop the identified technologies.
