The center CURES organized from 22 to 24 march 2016 a training workshop for the maintenance agents of Cameroon's hospital under the theme " Security and maintenance of electrical and medical equipments in a hospital". 11 maintenance agents from 5 differents regions of Cameroon (Central/South/East/West/Littoral region) attended.

Organized in collaboration with EPFL (Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne) and GlobalDiagnostiX, the workshop took place in 2 phases. The first phase (inventory) consisted to identify through questionnaires common problems of maintenance agents of hospitals in order to provide a solution that best meet their challenges (phase 2: the training)

The training includes theoretical courses (on the maintenance of medical equipments, electrical safety measures in hospitals, electrical standards, lighting protection, earthing systems, the quality of energy, electrical protection in hospitals, etc.) and  practical works (on measuring electrical quantities, measuring resistivity and resistance to ground, etc.)

The technicians showed their interest by setting out field-related issue concerning differents electrical equipments and their use and by exchanging relevant experience.

The various exchanges during the training used to highlight the fact that hospital's managers and responsables should be made aware of a regular maintenance of equipments and standardisation of electrical installations in hospitals. In fact, for thoses managers " En effet, pour ces managers, "when an equipment functions, it products money"; safety aspect and electrical protection  are no more placed in a prominent position. However, an effective maintenance system could extend the life-span of the equipments and thus "product money"

For that purpose, while wishing this experience to take place once more, the participants committed themselves to use in their hospitals the method learned during the training. Some actions of advocacy must be organized for more impacts on the maintenance of medical equipments and standardisation of electrical installations.
